Thanks to Patrick, the Donegal County Archives and Boyd for their help
Below are extracts from the District Inspector's Observation Book and Registers - the originals of both can be viewed at the Donegal County Archives in Lifford
I have included all that is in what appears to be the 'new' school registers - only fragments remain of the 'old' registers

General Observations
Care should be taken to avoid erasures in Roll Book. Any day on which there is not secular (?) instruction for ? ? and should not be included ? the ? to qualify for examination.
Signed Jo Bole, Inspector
Inspected from 12:0 to 2:40, 14th day of November 1889
Principal teacher - Denis Gallagher
The registers are incomplete - ages, residence, date of entry &c wanting in a large number of cases.
There should be no alterations of figures in the a?es. This, notwithstanding Mr Hamilton's remark on the preceding page, is often the case in the Daily Report Book.
The Inscription needs repainting.
The maps are badly kept - the first step toward their destruction - the removal of the rollers - having been taken in the case of the maps of the World & the Brit Isles - although comparatively new.
The proficiency as far as I have gone into it, is low - not I should surmise from want of regularity and industry on the teacher's part, as from want of method and good discipline and order. I was surprised to find the teacher giving a reading lesson without giving an example of reading, taking the children in order instead of promiscuously (so as to keep up their attention) &c. But, above all, I was amazed to hear loud whistling pass apparently unnoticed by the master : not to mention other disciplinal defects.
On these and other matters of scholastic importance the teacher should consult Dr Joyces Manual of Method (New Edition) : and put what there is set forth into practice.
Examined from 10:30 to 3:10, 2nd day of October 1890
This examination, from various causes, including chiefly the death of Mr Gallagher, was postponed.
The school will need much working up, especially in the written work.
Examined from 12:50 to 3:25, 12th day of March 1900
Principal teacher - John E O'Neill
Assistant - Cecilia McConville, class 3/2, appointed 1 Jan 1900 to school, and Jan 1898 under Board

The walls need whitewashing or wainscotting.
The new timetable needs some alteration. Only some subject such as writing that requires little speaking should be taken up at the same time as singing. The juniors were at writing when drawing was on the time-table.
Discipline very fair. Drill fair.
In the senior division only a few pupils have made much progress with signing and care is needed to prevent them singing harshly.
The girls should all have thimbles when at sewing.

Some attempt should be made to reclaim the plot in front - it is an eyesore at present.
