Introduction
There were 249 Births that took place in Campsie, Stirlingshire,
Scotland in 1855. 53 are of interest to Donegal researchers, the mother
or the father or both was noted as being from Donegal. Campsie was
known for its Fabric Printworks, Bleachfields and Textile factories.

1855 was the first year of mandatory Civil Registration in Scotland,
they asked more questions that year than any year since. For a Birth,
the names of both parents, ages of both parents and birthplace of both
parents was asked. Also asked was the date and place of their marriage
which was almost always Campsie. This would be a massively long list if
I put them all together. What I intend to do is break them up into
batches of 5 Births so I can put the SURNAMEs in the Subject line.
Better for an Archive search and I can get these sent out faster when
there is some time to do a few. Write with any questions.

Out of the 249 registered Births in Campsie that year, 53 had at least 1 parent
from Donegal. That's 21% I did more counting while rolling the film back
onto the spool.....out of those 249 Births, 63 had BOTH parents from
Ireland [any county] and 28 had 1 parent from Ireland [any county].
Total is 91 families with at least 1 parent being from Ireland making it
nearly 37% of the births that year. Other countries mentioned as the
birthplace of a parent were England [4], Wales [2] and Jamaica [1], the
rest were Scotland birthplaces.

Notes :

All of these are Campsie, Stirlingshire Births in 1855. 'ms' means
maiden surname. William GILCHRIST was the Registrar in Campsie for all
of these entries. Any ? are mine as the word/name was unclear.
