The question is often asked about the plight of the Derryveagh evictees and especially those which were bought to Australia on the above three ships by the Donegal Relief Fund.
So, I have summarized the surnames appearing in "The Londonderry Standard" Glenveagh April 10th 1861
(above) when reporting on the evictions - they appear below, underlined.
Then, I have inspected the three ships manifest to identify as near as possible the same
surnames from Donegal and most of them sponsored by the DRF. They appear below under the respective ship. Some of the handwriting is hard to decipher but I spell it as I see
it.
There does not appear to be enough known of all the given names of the evictees but only the
heads of households, which makes it almost impossible to positively identify the correct ones.
Where a surname is underlined but no ship names appear, it means that I have not
found anyone who would appear to be from the Derryveagh area of Donegal on the three ships, and in this I may have missed someone.
A missing village of evictees in Australia is often quoted but, I think an inspection of the
make up of the people below would cast a doubt on the likelihood of such a village being able to be set up.
If there is anyone who may be able to shed light on the likely distribution of the 244
evictees (resettled, died, workhouse, etc), I would like to hear from them.
